iMAPS FAQ Contents: Ampersand in Title "I'd like to put an ampersand (&) in the title of my map. However, the ampersand and text following it do not print." Please use %26 instead of the &. For example if you want your title to be Maps & Parcel Info, please enter Maps %26 Parcel Info. This should translate to Maps & Parcel Info on the layout page. Make the map bigger! We are working on a user friendly interface for choosing the size of the map. Currently the solution is: Replace msize=525 in the Address bar with a larger number.
Try 825, for example, and press enter. Once you set the msize to a larger number you can Bookmark the site so that you can always open it at your preferred size.
I'd like to be able to click on a parcel and get information (Owner, Address etc) You can do it! Click on the
I am looking for crime data. City of Raleigh crime information for the past 30 days is now available on iMAPS. Click here: RALEIGH CRIME VIEW (or choose the Raleigh Crime View from the dropdown located below the map). Please read the Raleigh Crime Help.
What is the accuracy of the data on iMAPS? There are a number of different data sets shown on the iMAPS site. Each data set has a level of accuracy and currency. To find out more about the data on iMAPS please download metadata Please note: iMAPS should not be used as a survey. Users are responsible for understanding the accuracy limitations of the data and the currency of data and taking these factors into consideration for use. If you are looking for a survey or other recorded information please go to the Register of Deeds BOOKS! Application I'd like to see Floodplain data. Updated Special Flood Hazard Areas (floodplain) data from FEMA is now available on iMAPS on the Environmental Features View. To access this view, Choose from the dropdown list located directly below the map or click below:
Turn on the layer: Special Flood Hazard Areas. Click on Legend (left side of screen) to see the data categories. The data is also available in shapefile format on our Data Download site: http://lnweb02.co.wake.nc.us/gis/gismaps.nsf/WebGlobals%21OpenView&ViewCat=shp The data is also available on the NC Floodmap Site. For more information see Wake County Floodplain FAQs How can I determine the Planning Jurisdiction for a property?
Why can't I see the Lat Long of a location? We have added a tool so that you can zoom to a given Lat/Long coordinate, based on requests from users. We researched adding functionality that would return the lat/long of a location on the screen. However, this would have affected performance/speed of the site to an unacceptable level. Why? Our data is stored in NAD83 Stateplane Coordinates. In order to return a Lat/Long the application would have to take a trip back to our server, perform a reprojection and return the coordinate. Given the traffic levels on this site, this function would have adversely affected performance. We have this functionality on our wish list for future upgrades to the site. Why can't I click on a neighboring parcel to get info? YOU CAN! Click on the Select Tool: When are new Orthophotos (Aerial Photography) going to be flown? New Orthophotography will be flown in 2010 and will be available in iMAPS in 2011. The last Orthos for the entire county were flown in 2005.
The City of Raleigh has implemented a plan to fly Orthophotos every year through 2008. These are available for areas within Raleigh's planning jurisdiction only. Orthophotography from the 2004 (color) and 2002 (black & white only) flights are available on the iMAPS site: Aerial Photography For photography outside Wake County, please visit the NC OneMap site. How can I view data for other counties? Wake County is participating in a project called NC OneMap that brings together data from counties, municipalities and state agencies in one viewer. This is a pilot project sponsored by USGS and NCCGIA: Click on the above link and then click on the Launch button to launch the viewer.
I would like to see parcel dimensions. Parcel dimensions show up when you are zoomed in. If you do not see dimensions - use the Zoom In tool OR search by parcel owner, address or PIN. Why do we have them set this way? If the dimensions were enabled to be on when you are zoomed out they would overlap and you would not be able to read them. The performance would also be slow as there are over a million dimensions in this dataset.
Where are the photographs of houses? On 3/29/04 we added a link to the photos. To get to the photo for a property: Search for the parcel by Owner, by Address or by PIN. Once the parcel is returned you will see the parcel information on the right side of your screen. Click on the words "Open Photo". The photo will open in a new window. If you would like all of the information (for example: access to the Building Sketches) in the Real Estate application: Click on the link for Real Estate Data & Revenue Department in the map window and enter your search (The link in iMAPS is on the left side of the screen below the tools). We have now implemented a direct link between the Real Estate application and iMAPS. If you search for a property on the Real Estate application, you can click on the Map link on the blue toolbar to open iMAPS. The map will be zoomed to the selected property. How can I turn off the PIN labels on the Parcels? Turn off the layer called Parcels (by unchecking the box next to it) and turn on the layer called Parcels - No PIN label.
What does the data on the Raleigh Development Plans View represent? The Raleigh Development Plans View shows both current and historical development plan submittals. Please turn on the top layer (which has no label next to it) to see the case number for the plan boundaries. This will give you an idea of the date and name of the plan submittal. For more information , please see http://www.raleighnc.gov/plansinreview
I'd like to be able to link directly to the Real Estate System There is a direct link from the Real Estate System to iMAPS. Once you have searched for a parcel in the Real Estate System, click on the link called Map (upper right, next to the Tax Bill link). A new window will open with iMAPS zoomed to the selected parcel. Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to link from iMAPS to the Real Estate System. We do have this functionality in our plans for future development. Note for IE7 Users: We have had some calls from IE7 users who were not able to use the map link from the Real Estate system. This may be related to the increased security level set by default in IE7. You will need to work with your IS Department to determine what level of security is appropriate for you. How do I know what version of IE I am using?
The new print tool prints on 2 pages; I want to print on only 1 page. Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and Mozilla Firefox browsers have a tool called "Fit to Page". We recommend that you download Firefox or upgrade to IE7 and use this tool if you would like to constrain printing to one page; both are free. Additional tips: if you are printing the Parcel Information, you will probably want to choose Portrait layout. You may also want to uncheck the Legend.
I am having difficulty printing. Suggestions for printing: 1. Use the iMAPS print tool (NOT browser File - Print) 2. Once you have clicked on the iMAPS print tool, a window will appear on the right side of the screen. Make your selections and hit Submit. 3. A new browser window will pop up. 4. (Optional) File - Page Setup: Set your margins to zero (left, right, top & bottom). If you are printing a Landscape map you will need to adjust your Browser Orientation (in addition to Selecting Landscape from the Print Dialogue in iMAPS). 5. In the new browser window: File - Print. Note: If you want parcel info to show on your printed map, you must first search for the parcel. ***Remember to use the print tool
***Printing from a browser application has limitations. If you are looking for a high quality printed map, please see GIS Map Products or our PDF Maps. There is additional information about printing in the iMAPS Help.
There is a red X in the upper left corner where the map should be. Occasionally it is necessary for the ArcIMS Administrator to refresh a map service; we try very hard to keep this to a minimum. Doing this causes the red X to appear where the map should be. If this happens, please wait about 2 minutes and then hit F5 to refresh your browser. The map should appear.
I'd like to be able to save the map as an image The way this works is a function of the browser you are using:
The server is down We are working hard to keep the performance of the iMAPS server stable, even as traffic to the site increases. From time to time we do experience problems with either the iMAPS server, a database connection (the iMAPS site pulls data from several different database servers) or the network. If you try to access the site and the server is down, send us an email: with the date and time that the problem occurred.
Where can I find a survey, plat, deed or other recorded information? Go to the Register of Deeds BOOKS! Application Questions about this application can be answered by rodtech@co.wake.nc.us I'd like to see Water and Sewer Data. Water and sewer data are maintained at the municipal level. These data sets are highly detailed and are updated frequently. It is not currently feasible to serve the data at the county level at an acceptable level of accuracy. Please contact your local town for water and sewer data. Where are ZIPCODE BOUNDARIES? The Zipcode Boundaries are now in both the property (main) view as well as the ADMINISTRATIVE VIEW. The View choices are located in the drop-down menu below the map. How can I see the zoning for a property?
Can I zoom / print to scale? We are working on it. My Question is not answered here. How do I get more help with iMAPS?
