Query, using the search buttons:

To search for a specific parcel, click on one of the search buttons located below the "Location Map" to the left of your screen. An input box will subsequently appear in the upper right of your screen. Enter the information required, and use the tab key if necessary, to move to the next input field. Then, press the "Search" button. A list of matches will appear. Click on the Parcel ID in the list that best represents the parcel record you've requested. The map will then zoom to the selected parcel, highlighting it in red. Notice that you now have summary CAMA information to the right for your selected parcel. You can scroll up and down the summary "parcel" table by moving the vertical scroll bar to the right of the table, up and down.

Zooming in and selecting a parcel:

From the county-wide view of the map, you can zoom to see more detail by selecting the "Zoom In" button just above the map frame and then clicking on the map (or alternatively dragging the mouse and drawing a rectangle on the map).  Continue to zoom until you get to the level of parcel detail you require. You can select a parcel, by clicking on the "Select Parcel" button and clicking on the desired parcel.

Moving the map using the pan buttons:

Once you've zoomed into the map to some level of detail, you may need to move the map up or down, or to the left or right of the current view extent. To do this, select the "Pan" button above the "Main Map" and hold your left mouse button down in the map and drag it in the desired direction and release the mouse button.  The map will automatically pan to the specified direction.  You can also use the directional pan buttons around the map - "North", "South", "East" and "West" to move the map in the desired direction.

Printing the map:

To create a printable version of the map and the summary "parcel" information, click on the "Print" button on the left of the screen.  This will open a new window with a map and the summary "parcel" information if a parcel was selected.  From the File menu you can choose print and send the printable page to any printer attached to your computer. **For best results - set your margins under "Page Setup" to zero, 0.0, and print to "landscape".

NOTE: The main Internet Map application website uses HTML frames and printing directly from the frame pages will return different results based on the browser.

Creating a buffer:

Currently this function is provided to create a buffer around a selected parcel, and display owner address information for all parcels selected within the specified buffer radius.  To begin, select a parcel by either using the query options provided (i.e. Search by Owner, Address, etc.), or by zooming in and selecting a parcel. Once a parcel is selected, click the "Create Buffer" button on the left of the screen and a form will be displayed from which you should enter a radius value not to exceed 1320 ft. Then click the "Buffer" button on the form, to create the buffer, after which owner information will be displayed on the right of the screen. Above this information, a link is also provided to a downloadable file containing the buffered owner's address information, useful for creating mailing labels.

Browser Settings

The Internet Map application can be viewed in both Microsoft Internet Explorer (4.01 or higher) and Netscape Communicator (4.05 or higher). The Property Information System was developed using HTML and the JavaScript 1.1 development environment. To download the appropriate version of these browsers, visit the Mozilla Website,   Netscape Website or Microsoft Website.

NOTE:
- Since the Property Information System uses HTML frames and JavaScipt to dynamically generate maps and "parcel" data, the browser should support frames and JavaScript.
- To prevent your browser from displaying previously cached or stored pages, the browser should be set to compare cached documents with new ones on every visit.
- Since the generation of  tax maps are resource intensive on the server, certain functions can take approximately 10 - 15 seconds on the server. Please be patient.
- A display resolution of 1024 X 768 (or higher) is recommended for best results.

Troubleshooting:

Printing problems . . . Everything prints except the map!

Several things may lead to this problem.

  • Unsupported browser version
  • Incorrect browser settings
  • Insufficient memory usage
  • Insufficient disk space for temporary internet files

For more information on browsers see "Browser Settings".

In addition, you can do the following, which may help to resolve your problem.

In the event insufficient memory usage is the cause, . . . First, close any additional programs you may have running, and try reprinting the map. Secondly, change your application performance settings as follows:

  • From the "Start" button on your task bar, select "Settings", then Control Panel.
  • Double click the system icon.
  • Select the performance tab.
  • Under Application performance, set boost to none.
  • Click OK to close the system window and close the control
  • panel.

In the event insufficient disk space is the cause, . . .< First, ensure that your Recycling Bin is emptied. Which contains previously deleted files, and consumes disk space, typically on the 'C:\' drive. To do this, select the recycling bin (Icon on your desktop), by right clicking over the icon, which displays a popup menu, from which you can choose "Empty Recycle Bin". Secondly, you can clear cached files stored on your system as a result of accessing web sites. These are called "Temporary Internet Files", and can be deleted using your browser.

  • From your IE browser, select the "Tools" pulldown menu, then "Internet Options...", and select "Delete Files" under the temporary internet files section. Select OK to delete the files, and OK again to close the Internet Options window.
  • From your Netscape browser, select the "Options" pulldown menu, "Network Preferences", and the "Cache" tab. Then select "Clear memory (and Disk) cache now", and OK to close the network preferences window.

In addition you may want to check your settings for caching temporary internet files, to ensure they're to your choosing.

We suggest the following ONLY as a last result, as the practice of such is not generally recommended.

Alternatively, you may save the map to your local drive in either a PNG, or BITMAP (bmp) format. Either or both of these formats are supported by Microsoft's Word and Paint programs, as well as other graphic/image viewing programs.

The way this works is a function of the browser you are using:

  • In IE6 there is a floating toolbar that will appear if you hover your mouse over the map. Click the Save icon.
  • In IE7, Microsoft removed the floating toolbar. If you are using IE7 you can:
    • 1. Click on the Select Elements Tool
    • 2. Right-click on the map
    • 3. Save Picture As...
    • 4. Navigate to the location where you would like to store your map images
  • In Mozilla Firefox, follow the steps above for IE7
  • For other browsers, please check with your IS Department or consult the online documentation to determine if a plugin is needed.
